Frequently Asked Questions
How are you handling CRB?
We are aware and working with the state to prevent the spread
According to crbhawaii.orb :
Coconut rhinoceros beetles (CRB) have not spread to all parts of Hawai'i. Their range in the Hawai'ian Islands is currently limited to O'ahu, certain parts of Kaua'i, and recently found on Maui and Hawai'i Island. You can help prevent accidental transport of CRB in Hawai'i by limiting the movement of infested breeding material.
How to help prevent the spread of CRB to Maui County:
-
Use local plants and green materials free from CRB.
-
Inspect inter-island plants and CRB host/green materials carefully before transport and after arrival.
-
Source responsibly — choose suppliers that follow CRB Best Management Practices and can provide documentation of prevention efforts.
-
Please report any suspected symptoms, larvae, or beetles immediately. Reporting is easy and free. Report CRB or visit 643pest.org. Early detection can help to save our communities.

What types of green waste do you accept?
We accept most yard and landscaping debris, including:
-
Grass clippings, leaves, and plant trimmings
-
Branches and tree limbs (up to a certain diameter — please call for current size limit)
-
Untreated, unpainted wood
-
Brush and hedge cuttings
-
Garden waste such as dead plants or weeds (without seeds preferred)
Not accepted: food waste, palm fronds, bamboo, treated or painted wood, plastics, metals, or any material contaminated with trash or chemicals.
Palm fronds and bamboo are extremely tough, slow to break down, and can damage equipment — we recommend taking those to facilities that specialize in processing them.
Do you offer pick-up and delivery services?
Yes! We make it easy for customers to get green waste to us or compost and mulch to you.
-
Pick-up service: We can come to your home, business, or job site to collect green waste.
-
Delivery service: Compost and mulch can be delivered directly to your property.
-
Service area: Most of Maui, with delivery fees based on distance and load size.
This is ideal for landscapers, farms, or anyone without a truck. We also offer bulk load discounts for larger projects.
Can I drop off my green waste?
Yes. Our Waikapū facility is open for public drop-offs during business hours.
-
Please ensure all green waste is free from plastic bags, trash, rocks, or treated wood.
-
Loads are inspected upon arrival to ensure they meet our material guidelines.
-
Fees are based on load size and type of material.
We encourage separating branches from grass and leaves when possible — it speeds up processing and improves compost quality
What products do you sell?
We produce:
-
Premium Compost – A nutrient-rich soil amendment created from 100% green waste, perfect for vegetable gardens, landscaping, turf renovation, and farm fields.
-
Mulch – Ground green waste that helps retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and reduce erosion. Ideal for gardens, orchards, and landscaping projects.
All products are tested for quality and maturity before being sold. Compost is fully cured to ensure stability and safety for plants.
Is your compost safe for vegetables and edible plants?
Yes. Our compost is made only from clean green waste — no manure, biosolids, or food scraps — and is processed at high enough temperatures to kill weed seeds and pathogens. It meets or exceeds safety standards, making it safe for use around fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
How long does it take to make compost?
On average, our composting process takes 3–6 months, depending on:
-
Material type and mix
-
Moisture levels
-
Temperature
-
Weather conditions
During this time, the material is regularly monitored, turned, and aerated to encourage healthy microbial activity. Once the compost is stable and nutrient-rich, it’s screened and ready for sale.
Do you serve both residential and commercial customers?
Absolutely. Our services are designed for:
-
Homeowners and gardeners looking to improve their soil or mulch their yards.
-
Landscapers who need bulk compost or mulch for projects.
-
Farms seeking large-scale soil improvement solutions.
-
Municipalities needing sustainable green waste management.
Whether you need a single pickup truck load or hundreds of cubic yards, we can handle it.
Why is composting important?
Composting benefits both the environment and the local community:
-
Reduces landfill waste – Green waste makes up a large portion of Maui’s landfill volume. Composting keeps it out of the landfill, extending landfill life.
-
Lowers greenhouse gas emissions – Organic matter in landfills produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Composting prevents this.
-
Improves soil health – Compost adds organic matter, improves water retention, and promotes strong, healthy plants without synthetic fertilizers.
-
Supports Maui agriculture – Locally made compost reduces the need for imported soil products and supports a circular economy.
